Dutch Rally

Lucas 3465
Hello everyone,
I am planning a Rally in the Netherlands, more specific, in and around "De Biesbosch".
It's an National park in wich dae eagles and osprey are breeding, with small and wide water and access to the south-west estuary.
As I already have some responce i'd like to hear from you when, wich month, and weekdays or weekend and how many days.
Please let me know what you prefere.
Regards,
Lucas Sluimer.

What about a three day rally in May? In 2018 there are two Bank Holiday Mondays in May (8 May and 28 May). Weatherwise, the weekend of 26-28 May may be more agreeable than early May.

Hi Lucas,
I would be interested in your proposed rally.  A long weekend in May might also suit me as I could hope to bring my son and 7 year old grandson as crew.

I had heard about the Biesbosch and was hoping to sail there some day.  However, my boat draws over 1.5m with the centre plate down, and the mast, which is 7m tall, is not easy to lower while afloat.  Do you think these factors might be a problem in the Biesbosch?

I am based in Northern France so not too far to trailer.

For those coming from UK ,a long weekend is desirable, ferry crossing takes a while, but  Chunnel crossing might be quicker.
So the late May bank holidays for us Brits make it the best time.

Less draft would be better to go up the narrow creeks. You will certainly get stuck in the mud a few times and need to raise the centreboard to get out of it. No big problem.

Draft is not an issue as log as it's no more than 3 feet.

I think I'm going to be cruising the Rance estuary in Brittany at that time in May, so I won't be able to join you then.  My grandson has just started to learn to sail - and he appears to be a natural.  My son lives in Guernsey so the Rance, above the tidal barrage, is a convenient choice for a first cruise with the 7 year old.

I hope to be able to bring "Salvo" to Holland to discover some Dutch cruising waters later in 2018.

No problem. You can come over some other time if you like and I'll show you around. Maybe there are more members who want to join in later.

Lucas, please send a note to Keith Muscott so he can place an announcement in the magazine. This sounds very interesting.

He has no need to, John; I've been following the thread.

As soon as something tangible has been worked out, I'll post it in the Rallies Section. Probably too late for the Autumn issue (inside a week?), but the Winter one will not be far behind.

That email address for me is dead, Lucas, although other DCA officers tend to use their ‘@dinghycruising.otg.uk’ email addresses.
I found that mine was unreliable and members thought that I was intentionally not replying to them.
As laid out on page 2 of the Journal, top left, the only email address to use when contacting me is [hidden email].

Sorry about that,

Keith

Lucas Sluimer has sent me his announcement of a Biesbosch National Park Rally in the SW of the Netherlands, starting in Woudrichen on Saturday May 26th, 2018.

It will be published in the Autumn and Winter Journals and then included in our 2018 Rally Programme, which appears in the Spring issue and is also published on this Forum, where it will be available to be downloaded, as usual.

I’m sure we all wish him the best of luck with this event.

Keith
