On 7 September 2019, the third edition of the 'Raid Extreme' will be held on the Lauwersmeer lake in the north of the Netherlands. This Lauwersmeer is a former estuary with winds from the sea but protected by the sea dyke.
The Extreme Raid is a single day challenge for sailing, rowing and paddling boats (or a combination). The total distance sailed is around 40 miles. The format of the event is: arrive on Friday, sail your guts out on Saturday, leave on Sunday. Meals and breakfasts will be provided to paid-up competitors.
Last year we had 21 boats from the Netherlands, Germany and France (DCA Journal 238).
Since the event is limited to 25 boats it is wise to register beforehand at http://raidextreme.wixsite.com/raidextreme
it can be hard work but there are different prize categories so no need to worry.
Post-event intensive care will be given in the form of a BBQ, music and singing.
And the Lauwersmeer is a fun place to stay for a couple of days (or you may combine it with a sailing trip through Friesland.
You are very welcome.
It was a hard decision to make, but due to the weather forecast we decided to cancel the race on Saturday.
The plan is to have a sailing trip on the Lauwersmeer if the conditions allow. Sailing in convoy on a more protected route may take the edge off the event for some, but for others it may just be what the doctor ordered to get more confident.
The camping offer is still on, but we skipped the catering. We will have party tents next to the catamaran club house.
And foodwise, we will have to improvise. On the other hand, there are restaurants and supermarkets near by, so we should be OK.
Sorry about having to take this step. Nevertheless, we hope to see a good many of you during the weekend.
